Spring is the time for professional development

People experiencing gambling harm need specialist advice and support.

The foundation offers training and professional development to gambling counsellors, health professionals and others who work with people affected by gambling, so they can provide the best possible service.

Our Professional Development Centre runs seminars, webinars and lunchtime presentations, as well as a foundation course for gambling help services employees new to working with gambling clients.

Upcoming foundation events

Identifying and responding to family violence

This day of training will be delivered by presenters from Women’s Health In the North, No To Violence and the Men’s Referral Service. The session will examine the links between family violence and gambling harm.

Foundation course

This three-day foundation course is for clinicians new to working with gambling clients. It is open to all workers in gambling help services, including financial and therapeutic counsellors, venue support workers, prevention and public health workers, and staff working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and Aboriginal communities.

Cultural appreciation

AJ Williams, director of Girraway Ganyi Consultancy, will help participants identify factors that affect contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and families, discuss how history impacts on current Aboriginal heath and describe measures for cultural safety to occur in practice.
